Different But the Same

I celebrate Christmas. But I know not everyone celebrates Christmas. And that's okay because it seems like the world would be awfully boring if everyone was the very same, don't you think?

So while I love caroling and Christmas trees, I'm glad I have friends who celebrate Hanukkah. Because it's nice to learn about something different. And I'm glad I have friends who observe Bodhi Day or who plan Winter Solstice parties and Chinese New Year parades. Because it's fun to participate in something new.

Mostly I guess I'm glad to have friends different from me.

I hope you're glad to have friends different from you, too.

A Scary Story

I have started my official Halloween countdown. It is now 6 days away. I have a costume that can't be beat. I have Yvette's annual Halloween party (a complete success). And I have carved jack-o-lanterns for the front porch.

But my favorite of all Halloween activities this year, I have successfully spooked The Hoefler Twins on three different occasions. The first time I hid behind the couch in their living room and waited (nearly an hour) for them to return home. After they entered the room, but before they turned on the lights, I jumped up with a loud, "Boo!!!!" They nearly fell over with fright.

Since hiding worked well, for my second scare I waited outside the yoga studio where The Twins were attending a class with Stilts. When the three came out I jumped out with a scream "AHHHAAHAHA!" The Hoeflers turned white. Stilts (of course) remained perfectly calm.

The third and final of my tricks was unfortunately much less intentional. We planned to go to a haunted house over the weekend and The Twins went first to stand in line. When I go there and made my way to them, I tapped them on their backs to let them know I was there. To my surprise, they jumped in the air with a shriek. I guess The Hoeflers have been put on edge this season...

I so enjoy Halloween.

I hope you so enjoy Halloween, too.

Meet The Hoefler Twins

Have you ever seen a double yolked egg? Kinda strange, isn't it? I've heard that about 1 in 1,000 eggs are double yolked. Like these two. You never see them apart and the two couldn't be more different than fire and water. And maybe that's it — it's a balance thing. Not only do they stand and fly on top of one another, but their personalities seem to neutralize all sorts of situations. They are our diplomats. They see both sides. They also have a strange way of affecting luck... or circumstance. And it's almost eerie if you think about it too long. More than once, by simply "being around" a wedding has suddenly happened — on the spot! Another time, the Dow crashed when they were harassed for visiting some friends perched near the New York Stock Exchange. My advice? Don't get on their bad side. Double trouble.
